The Imperial military of Cathay is primarily divided into two components, the professional standing army comprised of extremely specialized troops, and the Bannermen militia. As a agrarian society, Cathay sought to feed her large population and defend the boarders through the Garrison Farm system in which every farmer is also a soldier. Under this system, peasants were assigned plots of land to farm in return for one third of his harvest as taxes. Unlike the hapless peasant mob of Bretonnia, these militia are semi-professional soldiers who are required to report for training at the prefecture capital for one month every four months on a rotation system. During active duty, they are organized into different regiment of banners according to their prefecture and are oath-sworn to their commander and the Dragon Emperor.
